- The front crossmember supporting the fuel tank on certain standard cab Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra 1500 Series trucks can rust, which can spread to the frame and ultimately cause a failed inspection. Fabricating a replacement crossmember is a labor-intensive job outside the comfort zone of most vehicle owners, and the dealer solution - replacing the entire frame - is very expensive. This Dorman OE FIX fuel tank crossmember is designed to save time and money and is engineered to match the fit and function of the original equipment part. This repair requires grinding off existing weld points on the frame to prepare it for welding on the new crossmember, which is coated with a corrosion-resistant finish for durability. After installation, just spot-paint the weld points and heat-affected areas of the crossmember and frame as needed for added protection against the elements.
